We began as Digital Kiribati with a focused conviction: when people can access digital skills, trusted information, and online services, they unlock opportunity — for learning, livelihoods, and connection across our islands.
Listening closely to communities in South Tarawa and across the outer islands quickly made one thing clear: digital inclusion matters, but it is only one part of what shapes people’s lives. Limited employment pathways for women and youth, uneven access to education and training, and the daily pressures families carry all influence what is possible.
These realities are intensified by a defining challenge of our time: climate change is an escalating threat to Kiribati’s land, livelihoods, and way of life. In a nation of low-lying atolls, resilience is not optional — it is essential.
That is why Empower Kiribati emerged: an evolution from a digital-first initiative into a community-led movement focused on opportunity, resilience, and dignity — shaped by I-Kiribati priorities, culture, and lived experience. We exist to help turn local leadership into lasting outcomes, and to connect partners around practical, deliverable solutions.
We work with NGOs, government, and regional and international organizations — bridging local knowledge with practical delivery in ways that are culturally grounded and contextually relevant.
